The story
I was not looking for a spiritual calling.
Two bachelor's degrees, a marketing management role in the Norwegian oil industry, and a career I had planned carefully. Then my hands began to burn.
Before
The life I had built was working exactly as designed.
I had a marketing management role in the Norwegian oil industry before I turned twenty-five. Two degrees behind me, an income I was proud of, and a career path I could see all the way to the end.
I say this because so many people who write to me are living some version of it now — a life that works on paper and doesn't work anywhere else.
Aurora
My first thought was that I was losing my grip on reality. So I did the only thing that made sense. I called my mother.
Then something happened that I could not explain. My hands began to burn. Energy moved through me. And I sensed a presence that introduced herself as Aurora.
My mother listened. That moment changed everything — and I have thought many times since about how much rested on one person not laughing.
In 2009 I left the secure job to work as a healer full time. No backup plan, no second income, no sensible transition. Within a short time the waiting list was full.
The problem of one room
Working one person at a time has a hard ceiling. I could fill every hour I had and still turn away people who were in pain, and I never got used to doing it.
In 2021 Erik and I tried something on the podcast. Rather than directing healing toward one person, I directed it toward every listener at once.
Then the responses began to arrive, and kept arriving. Everything that followed — more than seventy recordings, the books, the conversations — came out of that one experiment.
Now
Twenty years in, the question is still the interesting part.
I work with healing, energy and guidance. I channel the meditations. I write down what I experience and I keep following it. What it ultimately means is a question I expect to be working on for the rest of my life.
I have never asked anyone to believe me. I ask them to stay curious slightly longer than is comfortable.
Biography
Susanne Ertsland Askvik is a Norwegian healer, author and explorer of consciousness, based in Stavanger on the west coast of Norway. She has worked full-time as a healer since 2009, published three books, channeled more than seventy guided healing meditations, and hosts podcasts in Norwegian and English with her husband Erik.
Her work has been documented in Norwegian media since 2008.
